security protocol provides data encryption, server authentication,

a TCP/IP connection. Because SSL is built into all major browsers
and web servers, simply installing a digital certificate turns
on their SSL capabilities.
SSL is used for securing the transfer of information between
sites and browsers, with online banking and shopping cart
transactions for example. |

All our hosting customers

from and much more. You must ensure
that Webalizer has been turned on. Detailed

View your web statistics from your Control Panel to see what
domains are accessing your web site, how many "hits"
you are getting, how much data is being transferred and more.
|
| |
What
are error, agent, referrer and transfer logs?
|
| |
An Error Log stores
data about errors generated by the server (e.g. Page Not Found
error) or by your CGI scripts.
This data is used to trouble shoot and fix script errors.
An Agent Log stores data about agents used to enter
the site -- such as web browsers ( Internet Explorer, Nestcape
) or any other Internet-based software -- and all related
data. This data is used in compiling the statistics for your
website.
The Referer Log stores the list of URLs from which
visitors are referred to your website. This data is used in
compiling the statistics for your website.
The Transfer Log feature stores combined data about
every visitor that comes to your website, including remote
host IP (i.e. visitor's IP), time of request (i.e. when visitor
requested the page), first line of request, etc. This data
is used in compiling the statistics for your website.
To turn on these logs login to your Control Panel:

How
do I simulate sub-websites? |
| |
To simulate a sub-web site,
you have to create a new directory (or folder to MAC users)
and then upload the main loading page (index.html).
You can setup as many sub-web sites as you wish. Effectual.biz
only charges additional fees if you go over the allotted disk
and data transfer limits that are established in your pricing
plan. |
| |
What
should I do if denied access to my web site using a browser?
|
| |
If you receive the message "There
is no DNS entry for http://www.yourdomain.com.au", there
are several possible explanations:
For a NEW domain, it may take a few days for the name to
be released by INWW and propagated to DNS's (Domain Name Servers)
throughout the Internet.
If it is an older domain that has previously been reachable,
the name may be on hold with INWW.
If you are unable to reach your URL, try www.microsoft.com.
If you cannot reach this URL, you may have connectivity problems.
Contact your local ISP for information on possible network
outages.

A POP Account, or Mail Box is
an email account that can collect email.
When a person sends an email to a particular email address,
the Mail Box is the place where the email is stored until you
retrieve it. This Mail Box can be accessed by any person with
a computer that has a Mail Client (example: Outlook Express,
Eudora, Outlook 2000) and the proper username and passwords
for this Mail Box.
All of the email within the Mail Boxes that you create in
your Control Panel can be accessed via "Webmail"
which is an online email client (similar to "hotmail")
that will allow you to check your email from any computer
that is online. |

Virtual domain users need to
use the following format for thier user name when popping in:
user%virtual_domain_name
Eudora might require the following syntax:
user%virtual_domain_name@pophost
Microsoft clients may take the following syntax:
user@virtual_domain
If you don't include the %virtual_domain_name, vpopmail will
assume it is either a /etc/passwd user or a vpop user in ~vpopmail/users
or configured with "default domain". |

Domain Name
| |
What
is a domain name? |
| |
Domain names are the familiar,
easy to remember names for computers on the Internet (such
as internic.net). They correspond to a series of numbers (called
Internet Protocol numbers, IP address for short) that serve
as routing addresses on the Internet.
Domain names are used generally as a convenient way of locating
information and reaching others on the Internet. Domain names
also reflects your particular business activity or trading
name. |
| |
Do
I need a domain name? |
| |
Web sites can be hosted
without domain names (the so-called stop-gap domains). At
the signup process a stop gap domain is automatically setup
for everyone to access and manage their website using the
stop gap(instant) domain alias you get at signup.
Stopgap domains support web site management and FTP services
and have the same privileges as those web sies with domain
names. |
| |
What
is a stopgap domain? |
| |
A Stopgap domain allows
you to use hosting services without a real domain name. What
is created is a domain instant alias.
Stopgap domain:
- has IP address (shared or dedicated);
- can have Web service;
- can't have Mail services;
- can't have its DNS zone;
- can be accessed through FTP;
- can't have subdomains;
- can't have aliases.
If you register with a stopgap domain, you will get a domain
name like "loginname.u1.effectual.biz". You can create
your own web-site and access it with either the IP (if the
IP is dedicated) or the above domain name.
A stop gap domain does not have any registration records
in the DNS (Domain Name Server). |
| |
What
does "register a domain name" mean? |
| |
The Internet domain name
system (DNS) consists of a directory, organized hierarchically,
of all the domain names and their corresponding computers
registered to particular companies and persons using the Internet.
When you register a domain name, it will be associated with
the computer on the Internet you designate during the period
the registration is in effect. |

that Internet DNS databases are updated only once a day, causing
the delay. |
| |
Someone
else has registered my company's name as a .com domain name.
What is the process for resolving my complaint?
|
| |
All ICANN-accredited registrars
follow a uniform dispute resolution policy. Under that policy,
disputes over entitlement to a domain-name registration are
ordinarily resolved by court litigation between the parties
claiming rights to the registration. Once the court rules who
is entitled to the registration, the registrar will implement
that ruling. In disputes arising from registrations allegedly
made abusively (such as "cybersquatting" and cyberpiracy"),
the uniform policy provides an expedited administrative procedure
to allow the dispute to be resolved without the cost and delays
often encountered in court litigation. In these cases, you can
invoke the administrative procedure by filing a complaint with
one of the dispute-resolution service providers listed at http://www.icann.org/udrp/approved-providers.htm.
For more details on the uniform dispute resolution policy, see
http://www.icann.org/udrp/udrp.htm. |
| |
What are the rules for registration of .net and .org names?
|
| |
They are the same as for .com.
Traditionally, however, names in .net have been used by organisations
involved in Internet infrastructure activities and .org is frequently
used by not-for-profit organisations. |
| |
Are .com, .net, and .org domain names available for registration
on a global basis? |
| |
Yes. The .com, .net, and
.org domains are available for registration by Internet users
across the globe. ICANN-accredited domain name registrars
are also located in various countries around the world. To
view the InterNIC list of domain name registrars by country,
click
here.
|
| |
I've seen domain names ending with two-letter combinations,
like .au. What are the rules for registering in these domains?
|
| |
Two letter domains, such
as .au, .de and .jp (for example), are called country code
top level domains (ccTLDs) and correspond to a country, territory,
or other geographic location. The rules and policies for registering
domain names in the ccTLDs vary significantly and some are
reserved for use by citizens of the corresponding country.
You should check with the registrar offering ccTLD registration
services regarding the specific terms and conditions for registration.
