Clue #10 - Do Your Homework
Put some time aside to learn about the Internet
and especially those components that are going to be an on going
part of your business. It is not difficult, and you will get a return,
as you will inevitably spend more time fixing mistakes than doing
your homework in the first place.
Understanding how your web environment functions is not the most
complex task associated with running a business, in fact it is quite
straight forward.
Invest time using the Internet to see what your options are, what
companies are offering, and how you can save money. Because some
companies choose to spend less on brand advertising, they can offer
you the same product at a cheaper price. Only the informed will
pick up these deals.
Ask your network of business associates, what their web strategy
is, who they are using, whether they are satisfied, and what they
are paying. In most cases people will share information if you are
prepared to swap notes and may have some unbiased and useful information
for them.
If you are getting a professional web designer to create your site,
be very specific about what you want. Get a stack of A4 pieces of
paper if you are not technical and rough up each of your pages.
Look at examples of sites that you like to get ideas. Remember,
less is more.
Do your homework so you can be efficient in how you purchase services
and brief your preferred designer.
In this brief recommendation, we have suggested that you can get
a better deal by doing your homework and spending sometime thinking
about your specific Internet requirements.
Use the web to price and compare all your Internet services, look
for examples of sites and pages that you like, and find a supplier
that suits your requirements at the right price.
